Something a bit different for this clip. If you hang around the NTSC-UK forum, you`ll know theres a GT4 hotlap contest on at the moment. Basically everyone must lap a preselected track, in any one of a number of cars, as fast as possible, and the fastest lap obviously wins.
This video is a replay of my entry, which stopped the clocks at 1m44.309s, and won the first round. I`ve made this replay in the data mode, so you can see all of the driving input, corner speeds etc. Obviously no use of traction control or stability control, as this cripples both the corner speeds, and balance of the car in high-speed corners.
28.5mb - 1 Minute 42 Seconds
This is a replay of my entry for round 2, which was 54.840s and came 4th. Winning lap was some 0.7s faster. I picked this track as it seemed a good choice to allow the F355 jockeys a chance to be competitive, only they were a bit more competitive than I anticipated. Doh. >_<
15.9mb - 0 Minutes 55 Seconds
This is my winning lap for round 3, at 1m26.887s. The Weds Celica has a little bit higher power to weight ratio than the RX7, but it runs wider in corners. However it can also handle the kerbs far better, so I can really make up the lost ground.
26.5mb - 1 Minute 26 Seconds
This is my winning lap for round 4, at 1m48.664s. This car and track prove to be a great challenge, because the track is quite technical, and even though quite easy to learn, is very difficult to master. The car is about as wild as you can get, and the harder you push, the faster it will go. To be fast you have to be very smooth and precise. To be godlike you have to be completely mental. :oD
I think theres pretty much a 1m47s in there, but couldn`t bag one by the time this round ended. As you can see on the video, I made a huge cockup over the jump-left-right and lose all rhythm, lines and control until I`m at the next hairpin. >_<;;;
34.0mb - 1 Minute 48 Seconds
Same clip from one of the onboard cameras.
28.3mb - 1 Minute 48 Seconds
This is my winning lap for round 5, which at 6m34.720s, was a pretty crushing 16.2 seconds faster than the 2nd place lap. This track is by far the most difficult on any racing game, and requires extraordinary concentration in order to sustain an aggressive pace for each 6 minute lap. This is a fairly clean lap, with only a couple of corners where I run wide and have to hold the outer radius, so theres probably another couple of seconds available. This challenge specified the hardest tyres available to make the car squirm around a little more to add to the challenge.
69.4mb - 6 Minutes 34 Seconds
Drift video in my current fave drift car. Its set with most of the engine upgrades, and control tyres (soft front, medium rear) to help it loosen in corners. Hasn`t got quite enough power for truly quality drifting, but its not far off.
34.0mb - 1 Minute 01 Seconds
The Cobra was always a total disappointment in previous GT`s, but this has been cured with a vengeance in GT4, as it is now one of the best car. Not only has it now got an acceptable engine note, and a proper roofless persona (although it still has the ugly roof in actual races), but it also has some of the best powersliding fun the game has to offer.
30.5mb - 0 Minutes 54 Seconds
One of my favourite tracks in the game is the historic Le Mans circuit. The game features 2 versions, the current layout, and this layout minus the Mulsanne chicanes, meaning you get the full Mulsanne straight, which is almost 4 miles long. This particular video features the chicaned layout, which I find more interesting for time trials, and what car could be more fitting to drive it, than the 4-time 24-hour winning Audi R8.
54.4mb - 3 Minutes 18 Seconds
This is a clip of the last of the license tests. Basically a lap of the mighty Nurburgring Nordschleife, in the Group C Mercedes. This is a very early lap (the only complete one that was necessary for this license), so its a bit vague, but nice and clean. It is also some 9 seconds faster than the required Gold time, but looking at the lines I`d guess theres probably another 5-10 seconds in there.
45.2mb - 6 Minutes 04 Seconds
Fastest lap of the `ring I`ve managed thus far. Laptime was 5m07.9s, and its using the F1 car, in arcade mode, with R5 tyres and the power and weight maximised. Theres a few mistakes mainly because the car is at times almost impossible to control over the massive bumps on this track, so you have to avoid kerbs altogether, and sometimes practically walk it round corners (Wehrseifen bridge is one example), because the vibration is incredible. Its mainly solid, but with one minor off when I go a tiny bit too fast through Schwalbenschwanz. I`m certain a sub-5 minute lap is possible.
38.4mb - 5 Minutes 08 Seconds
This track is really fun in the F1 car, and the layout really lets it use its capability to the full. Although the full circuit is obviously much more its` style, this shorter version is like a full-on sprint track.
21.7mb - 0 Minutes 35 Seconds
Very hot lap in the F1 car round the insanely tight and twisty Citta Di Aria track. On this track the F1 car is like a bull in a china shop, and can`t use its full ability. However its still the fastest car around this track (so far), and on this lap, the speed under the Gran Turismo banner at the 30 second point was 195mph. The first hairpin on this track is great fun in this car as the tail pulls the car around it, meaning you just wait for the moment to nail it once again.
40.1mb - 1 Minute 13 Seconds
An old favourite makes an appearance in GT4 after being missed out in GT3. To begin with, in fast road cars it feels far too wide and spacious, and pretty dull. However once you try it in the 900HP+ F1 cars, it suddenly `shrinks`, and those corners become a much greater test. The 2nd, and final corners are particularly challenging, as this particular car can hold absolutely massive corner speeds in them - on this lap I probably went a bit too fast in the second corner and you can see a massive twitch on the exit.
27.4mb - 0 Minutes 49 Seconds
I`ve seen people asking on various forums for more pics of the F1 cars. This video is a simple clip taken from the car select screen, showing all of the available colour schemes for the F1 car. A lot of them are obviously based on paintjobs from various global open-wheel series, so theres vague versions of Williams, McLaren, Ferrari, Nakajima, Jordan etc. Shame the red is so crappy.
23.2mb - 1 Minutes 36 Seconds
Citta Di Aria is one of the best tracks yet seen in the GT series, and even though its a thinly-veiled tarmac rally style stage, when tackled in a fullon GT car it really comes alive. The McLaren F1 as shown in this video can reach speeds of over 170mph on the narrow winding roads, and makes the whole experience well and truly white-knuckle.
51.0mb - 3 Minutes 00 Seconds
Just to reinforce just how scarily intense this track can be when tackled in something with serious bite, heres the onboard view of the clip above.
55.5mb - 2 Minutes 57 Seconds
Replay clip that shows off the gorgeous Fuji Speedway.
50.4mb - 2 Minutes 56 Seconds
This clip shows one of the more advanced license tests featured in GT4P. You can see that it is quite a bit different from licenses shown in previous GT games. On the part with the 90 degree corners in sequence, the new steering physics can be quite difficult as the car must be pulled from lock to lock, which can make manouevering difficult in such a tight space.
11.7mb - 0 Minutes 43 Seconds
The rally stage obviously looks much better, but what is harder to see is how much better the handling is. Rather than feeling like a rough, low-traction version of the road courses, the rally handling now has a fluidity and weighty feel that makes the rallying on GT3 look mediocre by comparison.
79.7mb - 5 Minutes 13 Seconds
Onboard view of the above clip, that shows people diving out of the way of the car.
77.0mb - 5 Minutes 02 Seconds
Even though Tsukuba is a pretty small circuit, its quite technical and great fun in almost any class of car. In this video its tackled in the trusty McLaren. Bit messy driving though as its a very early replay.
20.6mb - 1 Minute 55 Seconds - NO SOUND
Another Tsukuba clip, this time in the slightly slower Skyline racecar.
